Can I treat all animals with
Essential Oils ?
|
|
You
shouldn't treat cats and birds with aromatherapy ! Cats
have very different metabolic functions to horses and dogs and are not capable of excreting the essential oils efficiently, and sometimes
not at all.
This means that they stay in their bodies, and build up to reach
toxic levels !
Birds
should also not be exposed to any
essential oils due to their extremely delicate respiratory systems.

What is actually arthritis ?
|
|
Basically, arthritis is the inflammation of a
joint, and may involve any of the bones, ligaments, or synovial
capsules. It may become chronic and infection may result from it.
Enlargement of the joint usually occurs from increased production of
synovia (lubricating fluid), increased blood supply and new bone growth
or tissue thickening. Swelling in acute stage may be firm, warm and
painful to touch and becomes hard and less painful with time. Movement
of joint may be restricted, eventually permanent joint damage. Inflammation may also affect the bursae, which are
sacs filled with fluid on prominent parts of bones or depressions in
bone to form a hydraulic cushion for the tendons.

What can I do about ticks in the mane ?
|
|
Tickbites
tend to leave a crusty, itchy surface of yellow pus causing the horse to
scratch himself. The forelock seems to be one of the favourite places
for ticks ! Some horses scratch themselves until they lose big patches
of mane !
Apply an antiseptic oil or gel that soothes the irritated skin and at
the same time acts as a tick deterrent !

Spray !

My dog has a very itchy skin during the
summer months and scratches himself until he bleeds. How can I help him
?
|
|
Some dogs
develop an allergic reaction to fleabites . Even if you use
anti-flea products and get rid of your dog's fleas the itch can last for
weeks ! The hot and humid summer months are usually the worst for the
affected animals. They keep on scratching until the skin is raw
and inflamed !
Use a mild anti-flea product with itch relieving and anti-inflammatory
properties !

What can I do to boost my horse's immune
system ?
|
|
There
are plenty of herbs and plants to feed that are beneficial to your
horse's defence system. Echinacea, ginseng, garlic and marigold stimulate the white
corpuscles and fortifie the immune system !
Together with detoxifying plants like nettles, dandelion and kelp they all
help the body to fight and prevent
infectious diseases like colds and
coughs.

What is a sarcoid and why does it occur ?
|
|
Sarcoid is
a benign skin tumour and the most common form of equine cancer. It
is usually located on head, shoulders or lower limbs and is caused
by a virus. One or multiple growths variable in appearance. May be
flat, wart-like, have a thick, crusty surface or be raw, ulcerated and
fleshy. It may be static for long periods but will often become locally
aggressive. Static sarcoids should not be surgically removed as this may
lead to enlargement and local spread !
Excellent results have been achieved with the Sarcoid
Gel, see also case
